Myanmar army chief to visit Thailand

BANGKOK, August 10 (TNA) - Myanmar Army Chief Senior General Min Aung Hlaing is scheduled to visit Thailand late this month, during which the Thai government will present a fresh financial assistance to the flood-hit neighbouring country. Thai Army Chief General Udomdej Sitabutr told journalists on Monday that his Myanmar counterpart will visit Thailand from August 24-25. General Udomdej, who is also Thai Deputy Defence Minister, stressed that Thailand is also ready to send military personnel and consumer products to assist flood victims in Myanmar over the next couple of days. Meanwhile, Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister General Tanasak Patimapragorn told reporters that Myanmar has not yet asked for any additional assistance because conditions in the neighbouring country, including weather and air transport systems, are not ready for the time being for the acceptance of assistance. However, the deputy premier and foreign minister announced that Thailand has been prepared to offer immediate help once requested by Myanmar. (TNA)
