Myanmar, Thai Buddhists offer alms to monks

BANGKOK, October 20 (TNA) - Massive merit-making and alms giving ceremonies held in northern Thailand to mark the end of the Buddhist Lent have drawn thousands of tourists upcountry, particularly in Mae Sai district, Chiang Rai Province, where Myanmar people have ventured across the border despite heavy rains. Other industrial provinces like Uttaradit and Nakhon Ratchasima also held similar massive alms giving ceremonies in the city centre, to celebrate the belief that Buddha descended to earth from heaven a day after the end of the Buddhist Lent period.
