Myanmar Worker Arrested For Murdering Frenchman In Phuket, Thailand

PHUKET, April 27 (TNA) - Thai police have apprehended a Myanmar worker on charges of robbing and murdering a Frenchman in the Thai southern resort of Phuket recently, said a senior police officer on Sunday. Accompanied by several senior Phuket police officers and Claude de Crissey, French honorary consul for Phuket, deputy national police chief Pol. Gen. Rachatha Yensuang told a press conference that police had arrested a 24-year-old Myanmar worker in Thailand identified as Shwe Oo or ‘Dam and charged him of conspiring in robbing and murdering the Frenchman on April 18. The victim, according to police, was identified as Fabrice Boigeol, 37, was found dead inside his room at a resort in Phuket’s Muang district. Police said he was hit by wooden stick and rock while asleep. The Myanmar suspect was arrested on Saturday at a rubber plantation atop a mountain and near a worker camp in Phuket’s Muang district, said Pol. Gen. Rachatha. ‘Dam’ had confessed to police during an interrogation that he and other Myanmar worker identified as Maung Myo, 24 had hit the French victim and stole money before escaping, said Pol. Gen. Rachatha. ‘Dam’ also told police that he had decided to rob Mr. Boigeol after the Frenchman scolded him earlier, said Pol. Gen. Rachata. Maung Myo is still at large, police said. Mr. Crissey said he felt sorry for the incident in which the suspects murdered a Frenchman just to rob the victim. He said the suspects are living in Thailand and yet ruined the kingdom’s reputation which is not right. Mr. Crissey also praised police in making the swift arrest. (TNA)
