NACC finds former Thai DSI chief possess "unusual wealth"

BANGKOK, March 11 (TNA) - Thailand's National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has resolved unanimously to seek a court order to confiscate assets, worth over 346 million baht, from former director-general of the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) Tarit Pengdith for alleged "unusual wealth". An NACC member, Preecha Lertkamolmart, told journalists of the resolution after an NACC meeting in Bangkok on March 10, noting that his anti-graft panel found evidence showing Tarit's assets are "unusual wealth", including 90.26 million baht worth of assets that were earlier seized by NACC. Preecha said the investigation followed a report that Tarit's wife, Wassamol Pengdith, has a mansion worth 21 million baht in Khao Yai area of Nakhon Ratchasima Province in the Thai Northeast. Preecha revealed NACC had then questioned Tarit about the assets but he only claimed that he did not understand its accusation and thought that an NACC sub-committee investigating his case treated him unfairly. According to the anti-graft commissioner, NACC also found that the former DSI chief had transferred assets to other people. (TNA)
