Najib Says Malaysia Remains Committed To Climate Agenda

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 2 (Bernama) -- Malaysia remained committed to the climate agenda, especially on reducing carbon emissions in order to sustain a better environment, said Prime Minister Najib Razak Wednesday. He said in the past six years, Malaysia had taken a clear step towards a cleaner future, and it had a more sustainable economy and a more balanced energy mix currently. "We can grow our economies, increase prosperity and reduce emissions all at the same time. "We stand ready to work with other fast-developing nations to argue for greater ambition in 2015 and to show that economic development and climate action are not competing goals but common ambitions," he said in his speech at the opening of the Asia Pacific Climate Change Adaptation Forum at the Putra World Trade Centre, here, Wednesday. His speech text was read out by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Mah Siew Keong. The three-day forum from Wednesday is the largest gathering of adaptation practitioners in the region to discuss innovative ideas and practices to reduce the vulnerability of the region from the evident impacts of a changing climate. -- BERNAMA
