Najib Visits Ranau To Look At Earthquake Damage

RANAU (Sabah, Malaysia), June 9 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak (centre) Tuesday visited the Ranau district police headquarters to look at the damage caused by the earthquake that hit Ranau and Kundasang last Friday. He had a look at the damaged police quarters and talked to the occupants who were putting up in camps in the compound of the headquarters. The 5.9-magnitude earthquake had damaged three of the six police quarters there. Najib, who had flown to Ranau by helicopter from Kota Kinabalu (capital of East Malaysian state of Sabah), was accompanied by Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman; Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein; Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Joseph Pairin Kitingan and several state ministers. The prime minister is scheduled to attend a briefing on the disaster at the Liwagu Restaurant in Kundasang, after which he will hand over aid to the victims and relatives of those killed in the earthquake. Sixteen people were killed in the earthquake as scores of climbers and guides were trapped on Mount Kinabalu following the earthquake. Two people are missing.
