Nanning Gas Leak: Ashes of 2 Victims Brought Home

JOHOR BAHARU, March 28 (Bernama) -- The ashes of two Malaysian victims killed in a gas leak incident at Nanning, China on March 16, were brought home Friday. Johor Tourism, Trade and Consumerism Committee chairman Tee Siew Kiong said the ashes were those of businessman Chin Yoke Weng, 61 and Ng Wei Shan, 28. The ashes were taken from the Nanning Wuxu International Airport in Nanning, China to the Changi International Airport in Singapore before being brought to Johor Baharu, the victims' hometown by road. "The bodies of another three victims are expected to be brought home on April 2, for burial at the Chinese Memorial Park here. "It took some time because the Chinese authorities needed to carry out post-mortem first. "I want to thank the Malaysian Embassy in China and the Chinese authorities for their efforts in bringing home the remains of the five victims," Tee told Bernama here Saturday. The other three victims are Seah Foon Hong, 48; Tay Chong Chai, 42; and, Tan Bian Chiang, 41, while the survivor is Seah's wife, Lim Ching Lin. It was reported that they were believed to have inhaled leaking poisonous gas while staying in an apartment there. The group was in Nanning for a business trip, as they entered China from Guangzhou on Sunday (March 15) before heading to Nanning the very same day. -- BERNAMA
