NARIT warns not to use sunglasses to watch solar eclipse

BANGKOK, March 1 (TNA) -- The National Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT) is set to organise a live broadcast of the solar eclipse which would occur in March 9 via its website, while warning the public to use special or an x-ray film to watch the solar eclipse. Head of NARIT Academic Services Sector Supareuk Karuehanon said his agency is set to organise an acitivity for the public to witness the solar eclipse phenomenon on the morning of March 9, with Chiang Mai being one of the five provinces that NARIT would set up an observation point. He noted that Thailand would be able to partially witness the eclipse, where the view would clearest in the Thai southern province of Yala's Betong district. Mr Suparuek said the institute would also be broadcasting the eclipse live on its website at www.narit.or.th He then advised that if anyone wanted to watch the eclipse on their own, they should do so only through the telescope used especially to watch the sun or through an x-ray film or even through the holes of a strainer. He warned that watching the eclipse through sunglasses or mobile phone camera lens or lens of any kind could damage the eyes. (TNA)
