National Day: Awards Testify Qatar Media Corporations Growth

Doha, December 11 (QNA) - The State of Qatar witnessed great development in the audio and visual media services broadcast on local channels and the official radio. To mark the Qatar National Day 2013, Qatar Media Corporation (QMC) highlights these achievements in a report for 2012 - 2013. Qatar Television: Qatar Media Corporation focused on the rehabilitation of human resources and supported the needs of the news service with a number of techniques in order to facilitate the news material. The Corporation further developed all existing systems under the supervision of the engineering control in Qatar Television. This is to keep pace with the rapid progress in the broadcasting and television production, and to reach interrelated and high-definition systems. To this end, the Corporation implemented a number of projects including updating and activating devices in the camel racing studio, activating and expanding the use of Media Server to include recording and editing in the daily programmes. The Corporation also implemented a project to run 12 cameras with modern recording and display devices instead of traditional tapes, and updated the cameras in the news studio by adding five new cameras running in HD systems. Qatar Television broadcasted 8,374 hours of programming from religious, cultural, news, serials to other local programmes. Qatar Television won numerous awards while participating in the 12th GCC Radio and TV Festival in the Kingdom of Bahrain, including the Gold Award for the historical series Al-Qaaqaa, the Gold Award for the series Tasaneef, and the Silver Award for the environment programme Bar wa Bahr. Qatar Radio: Qatar Radio produced several distinct dramatic works and programs that won many accolades and gold and silver awards in the Gulf and Arab festivals. The Qatar Radio produced more than 100 hours of a variety of cultural, social and religious programmes. The Radio also updated and improved its news programmes by expanding the network of correspondents, keeping pace with modern technological developments and the acquisition of the latest electronic devices to provide speed in following up and broadcasting the news. Sout Al-Khaleej FM: Qatar Media Corporation started to implement the permanent channel of Sout Al-Khaleej FM in the Sultanate of Oman. It also contributed to prepare the studios of Sout Al-Khaleej in its new building in Katara The channel renewed its contract to broadcast in London for three years, and signed another contract to operate an application for Sout Al-Khaleej FM on tablet computers and smartphones (iPhone, blackberry and Android). The channel produced several exclusive songs to mark the national and sports events in the State. Sout Al-Khaleej won the second place in the vote for the best Arab youth FM radio in the annual referendum organized by (Zahrat Al-Khaleej) magazine. The channel was keen to improve the capabilities of its staff by holding training workshops. Al-Kass Sports TV Channel: the TV added a new sport channel (+1) to have three SD channels and two HD channels. The TV increased its direct air coverage of many games at the same time. It covers important local and international championships hosted by the State of Qatar. The TV channel established a new state of the art building in Aspire Zone prepared with advanced television equipment that is ready to operate with 3G system.
