National Forum on Anti-Corruption takes place

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ “Corruption is a harmful activity that threatens national security, undermines democratic system and values, and leads to disbelief of public in government. Therefore, fight against corruption is a fight for democracy, law-abiding attitude, justice and the future of the people. Fight against corruption can’t be lost”, said Parliament Speaker M.Enkhbold in his opening speech at National Anti-Corruption Forum which is taking place in State Palace today. Attended by Members of Parliament, foreign diplomats in Mongolia, authorities of government organizations and representatives of organizations cooperating with Mongolian Anti-Corruption Agency and civil society organizations, the national forum is being held in the framework of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Anti-Corruption Agency to discuss corruption challenges in every sector and seek solutions. The national forum is divided into four panel sessions under the themes ‘Legal environment surrounding anti-corruption and cooperation between judicial branch and law enforcement agencies’, ‘Transparency and accountability of government organizations’, ‘Preventing corruption in private sector’ and ‘Participation of public, media and NGOs in prevention of corruption’. Law of Mongolia on Anti-corruption, adopted on July 8, 2006, legalized the establishment of an independent government organization which will function to prevent corruption, raise public awareness on the social disadvantages of corruption, collect assets and income declarations from government officials, and conduct inspections. Moreover, on January 11, 2007, Parliament passed a resolution on the structure of the Anti-Corruption Agency, laying the foundations of the now 10 year-old organization. Mongolia ranked 72th out of 168 countries in Corruption Perceptions Index 2015 issued by Transparency International, an international non-government organization based in Germany.
