National Human Rights Action Program launched in Baku

Baku, January 10 (AzerTAc). A presentation of National Human Rights Action Program approved by Azerbaijan`s President Ilham Aliyev has today been held here. Opening the event, chairman of the Azerbaijani parliament`s Committee on Legal Policy and State Building Ali Huseynli pointed out the importance of cooperation among the civil society institutions and the mass media towards successful implementation of the Program. He noted the approval of the Program shows how much attention the government attached to the sphere. According to Huseynli, the Program features a wide range of issues, including the development of human rights protection systems and improvement of the relevant legislative basis. Chingiz Asgarov, section chief at the department for the work with law-enforcement bodies at the Azerbaijani President`s Administration, highlighted the aims and structural components of the Program. He said that as part of “Azerbaijan 2020: vision into the future” development conception all six chapters of the Program reflect activities on human rights protection. Monica Martinez, Rule of Law Programme Manager at the OSCE Office in Baku, hailed the approval of “such a comprehensive document”, stressing its importance in terms of increasing the efficiency in protection of human rights and freedoms. Faig Gurbanov, head of human rights and public relations department at Azerbaijan`s Justice Ministry, outlined the Ministry`s action plan for the fulfillment of the Program.
