National Institution for Human Rights reviews capacity assessment with Asia Pacific Forum

Manama, Mar. 3 (BNA): National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) President Maria Khoury held a virtual meeting with Pip Dargan - Principal Adviser, Capacity Assessments and International Engagement Asia – Asia Pacific Forum (APF) of National Human Rights Institutions, and Rosslyn Noonan - APF Expert NHRI Consultant, Former New Zealand Human Rights Commissioner and former President of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI), regarding the initiation of the Forum in conducting a Capacity Assessment. The assessment revolves around providing technical support and assistance to the institution and activating its mechanisms and competencies and on how to deal with various parties and stakeholders to promote and protect human rights in Bahrain. Khoury stressed the importance of the assessment as a continuation of the evaluation conducted in 2017 and during which meetings will be held remotely with members of the Board of Commissioners, the Secretary-General and a number of General Secretariat employees. It also includes meetings with stakeholders from officials from several bodies and civil society institutions with which the NIHR cooperates to implement its competencies and fulfill its role. The meeting will be the first to be conducted virtually by the forum with national institutions review the evaluation of their performance. The APF is one of four regional networks of national human rights institutions (NHRIs) within the International Co-ordinating Committee of NHRIs.
