National Police Assure Indonesia Is Secure

Jakarta, Jan 8 (Antara) - The National Police have emphasized that Indonesia has been secure despite the recent warnings issued by the US Embassy and Australian government. "Based on the review of the police security intelligence, there has been no disruption of social order that really stands out," National Police spokesman Inspector General Ronny F. Sompie said here on Thursday. Although the security situation has been safe, he noted that police have been on high alert. "Police are still raising awareness since travel advisories have been issued," he noted. Earlier, the US government issued a travel warning advising its citizens against traveling to Indonesia because of a potential threat of terrorist attack. The US government has also advised its citizens to be alert when visiting certain facilities in Surabaya, East Java. According to Ronny, the warning issued by the US is categorized as a travel advice and not warning. "That goes under the category of travel advice, it is not a travel warning," he noted. A travel advisory, he noted, is issued routinely by a country, which has certain consideration for intelligence, to ensure the safety of its citizens visiting a city in a particular country.
