National Sport Day: Qatari Embassies, Consulates Abroad Organize Various Activities on National Sports Day

Doha, February 09 (QNA) - The diplomatic, consular and representative missions of the State of Qatar abroad organized various sporting events on the occasion of National Sport Day in accordance with precautionary measures to limit the spread of COVID-19. In The Hague, the Embassy of the State of Qatar to the Kingdom of the Netherlands held various events on this occasion, in which a number of officials in the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a number of GCC ambassadors, and heads of Arab and foreign missions accredited to the Netherlands participated. The events included various sports exercises for children, a football match, and an exhibition of promotional photos of Qatar's preparations to host the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. In Amman, the Embassy of the State of Qatar to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan organized events on this occasion, with the participation of HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Jordan Sheikh Saud bin Nasser bin Jassim Al-Thani, a number of ministers, officials and ambassadors accredited to Jordan, and members of the diplomatic mission. In a speech on this occasion, HE Ambassador stressed the depth of Qatari-Jordanian relations in all fields, especially sports, noting that National Sport Day is an unprecedented initiative unique to the country with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of sport and its role in the lives of societies. In Kuwait, the Embassy of the State of Qatar to the State of Kuwait held events on this occasion, which included walking. The events were attended by HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Kuwait Ali bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud, Military Attache Col. Ahmed bin Ali Al Mahshadi Al Maadeed, diplomats and embassy staff. In Khartoum, the Embassy of the State of Qatar to the Republic of Sudan organized events on the occasion of National Sport Day with the participation of HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Sudan Abdulrahman bin Ali Al Kubaisi, diplomats and embassy staff, the Military Attache in Khartoum, and representatives of Qatari companies and organizations operating in Sudan, and a number of community figures. HE Ambassador said that the significance of the State's celebration of National Sport Day comes as an expression of the importance of sport for the family, the individual and society. His Excellency pointed out that this year's celebration is directed towards the State of Qatar hosting, for the first time in the Middle East and the Arab world, a major global event represented in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. In this regard, HE Ambassador affirmed that the State of Qatar is ready to begin this occasion, which is a source of pride not only for the State of Qatar, but for the Arab and Islamic world, pointing out that Qatar's organization of the FIFA Arab Cup 2021 recently came as a successful experiment in the framework of preparations for the FIFA World Cup. In Abuja, the Embassy of the State of Qatar in the Federal Republic of Nigeria organized events on this occasion, in which HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Nigeria Dr. Ali bin Ghanem Al Hajri, HE Ambassador of Nigeria to Qatar Yakubu Abdullah Ahmed, the embassy staff, Qatar Charity office in Nigeria, and a number of orphans sponsored by Qatar Charity. The sport activities included football, basketball, and tennis, in addition to various competitions. In Santo Domingo, the Embassy of the State of Qatar in the Dominican Republic held events on the occasion of National Sport Day, which included cycling in the tourist area in Santo Domingo. (MORE)
