Nauryz celebrated in London

London, March 24 2010 (Khabar) - Ahead of the Nauryz holiday, a ball room at one of London’s top hotels has hosted a reception devoted to the oriental New Year. Kazakhstani students of UK Universities demonstrated the rite “shashu”. It was explained that coins and sweets mean wishes of wealth and well-being. A 82-year-old Khadisha Doskarina tasted Nauryz-kozhe (soup) the first. She arrived to London to visit her grandchildren.
Khadisha Doskarina:
- I would like to wish everyone a happy Nauryz holiday. May there always be the bright sky and may our unity become stronger. May tomorrow bring peace and calmness. I wish everyone health, wealth and prosperity.
The event was organised by the Kazakhstan embassy in Great Britain and the British-Kazakh society. The organisers say such meetings are a nice opportunity to tell Europeans about Kazakh culture and traditions.
Will Stamper, company manager:
- Despite the fact that England is a small Island and Kazakhstan is a vast country, I hope there will be no communicational distance and misunderstanding between people. May this holiday in Kazakhstan be successful as well as this year.
Great Britain is one of the largest investors in Kazakhstan’s economy. The volume of invested money is around 13 billion US dollars and it is still growing.
