Navy’s boats accelerate river flows into the sea

BANGKOK, Oct 23 – The Disaster Relief Center of the Royal Thai Navy has deployed 55 propeller-pump boats at river estuaries to speed up flows into the sea as Chao Phraya River is rising. The center through its ad hoc unit of propeller-pump boats sent 22 such boats for installation at bridges over the Tha Chin River in Samut Sakhon and Nakhon Pathom provinces. The center also sent 33 more propeller-pump boats to five other locations in Samut Sakhon and Samut Prakan. This responded to a request from Somkiat Prajamwong, director-general of the Royal Irrigation Department, for such boats to accelerate river flows into the sea, especially the flow of the Tha Chin River, to relieve flooding in the basin of the Chao Phraya River that is rising. The navy’s adhoc unit surveyed areas with the Royal Irrigation Department and the Hydro and Agro Informatics Institute to determine the locations of the vehicle installation. The operation of the boats will continue until the water situation in the Chao Phraya River will ease. (TNA)
