Nay Pyi Taw, Bangkok cooperate on water management

BANGKOK, December 16 (TNA) - The Myanmar government and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) will cooperate on water management, covering exchange of relevant information, to pave the way for stronger ties and cooperation between the two neighbouring countries in the future. Bangkok Governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra officially welcomed visiting Myanmar Vice President H.E. U Nyan Tun and his entourage at the BMA headquarters in the Thai capital on December 15, followed by a briefing on BMA flood management plans provided by BMA officials to the Myanmar side. MR Sukhumbhand said this week's visit to Bangkok by the Myanmar Vice President and his entourage was a good opportunity for BMA to brief them on how important the BMA water management system is, along with its steady development. The Bangkok governor told journalists that the Myanmar Vice President appeared to be very interested in BMA water management plans, especially those in the main Chaophraya River in which BMA has closely worked together with other concerned agencies, including the Royal Irrigation Department, for the sake of the maximum efficiency. The Bangkok governor announced that BMA is ready to cooperate with the Myanmar government, especially on a water management system, while the Myanmar government will later inform BMA on what areas it is interested in. According to the Bangkok governor, Myanmar's capital, Nay Pyi Taw, and the Thai capital have similar geological aspects and the agreed cooperation represents the first step toward stronger relations between both neighbouring countries.
