NBTC advises cell phone, TV users

BANGKOK, May 17 (TNA) - As the monsoon season is approaching Thailand, the National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission (NBTC) has given several advices to owners of cell phones and landline telephones, as well as television users on how to use the devices safely while there are thunders and/or lightnings. NBTC Secretary-General Thakorn Tantasith told journalists on Saturday that his agency is concerned over the safety of people and owners of mobile and landline telephones, suggesting that they should avoid using them near high-powered electricity post, petrol and gas stations. Using mobile phones near such dangerous sites, Thakorn warned, could induce electric current to cell phone, noting that using electronic equipment during a thunderous shower is also peril and users must also not wear metals because they could cause a lightning. Besides, users of mobile phones should stay indoor or stay under a safety roof while it rains and after seeing a lightning, people should remain staying at the safe place at least more than half-an-hour and they should leave after they are certain that there will be no more thunders. As for TV watchers, the NBTC chief advised them to turn off their TV sets when there is a thunder because it may damage their TV sets. The NBTC chief also recommended that owners of TV sets should install a safety equipment, called the "Search Projector" because it can reduce risks to other electronic equipment installed inside their houses or buildings.
