NCPO briefs assistant foreign military attaches on one-month performance

BANGKOK, June 25 (TNA) - Thailand's army-led National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) has briefed assistant foreign military attaches from 15 countries on its one-month performance, after it took control of the national administrative power on May 22, 2014. NCPO Spokesman Colonel Weerachon Sukhondhapatipak told journalists on Wednesday that the assistant foreign military attaches were informed that the NCPO is laying regulations for migrant workers, after the United States last Friday dropped Thailand to its lowest level of “Tier 3”, from Tier 2, in its annual Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report. Colonel Weerachon said the assistant foreign military attaches were also briefed on a statement issued by the European Union (EU) on June 23, demanding the Thai military junta to organise a fresh general election and to create national reconciliation as soon as possible. According to the spokesman, the briefing also covered the NCPO's move to seize weapons and arrest of people joining the so-called Khon Kaen Model Armed Network, which planned to create violence in the Thai North and Northeast, as well as payment of more than 92 billion baht to local farmers who joined the rice-pledging scheme of the previous government and an ongoing effort to regulate taxis and motorcycle taxis, the results of which should be seen within one month. The 15 assistant foreign military attaches attending the briefing included those from the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Australia. (TNA)
