NCPO briefs foreign military attaches on Thailand's situation

BANGKOK, June 18 (TNA) - The army-led National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) has briefed foreign military attaches on Thailand's updated situation. NCPO Deputy Spokesman Colonel Weerachon Sukhonthapatiphak on Wednesday explained 22 military attaches from 18 countries at the Royal Thai Army Headquarters in Bangkok that the NCPO was to take control of the national situation and administration on May 22, 2014 to stop prolonged domestic political problems and to prevent more casualties among Thai people. Colonel Weerachon insisted that the NCPO is working for the public and national interest, saying that curfew was imposed only in a limited period and it has already been lifted nationwide, while the ongoing exercise of the martial law is aimed to facilitate national solutions. Colonel Weerachon noted that the NCPO is trying to introduce good developments to the country and when the domestic situation fully returns to normal, there will be a fresh democratic election. The NCPO deputy spokesman confirmed that relations between foreign and Thai armed forces remain intact, calling on friendly nations to be patient and give times for the NCPO to solve domestic problems. The NCPO deputy spokesman acknowledged that it is normal for Western countries to be concerned over the NCPO's actions, but the NCPO will not retaliate against any country opposing it, while trying to create understanding, instead. Those who attended Wednesday's NCPO briefing include military attaches from Australia, Canada, China, Germany, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Myanmar, Pakistan, the Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Sweden, Britain, the United States, Vietnam and South Korea. Meanwhile, the NCPO plans to, from now on, have weekly briefings with foreign military attaches. (TNA)
