NCPO insists on transparency, accountability

BANGKOK, June 9 (TNA) - Thailand's army-led National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) insists that it will handle state budgets with transparency and accountability without any repetition of past mistakes. NCPO Deputy Spokesman Colonel Winthai Suvaree quoted Thai Army and NCPO Chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha as promising on Monday that the NCPO will implement its plans, projects and budgets with righteousness, transparency, fairness, accountability and efficiency, while also preventing corruption and any conflict of interest. The deputy spokesman said General Prayuth has stressed that there will be fair competition in all procurement projects and there will not be any monopoly. But General Prayuth has acknowledged that some projects can be implemented right away and some others are to be waited for existing mechanisms to function, after they were affected by domestic politics, bureaucracy, government officials and laws in the past. According to the deputy spokesman, there may be problems, but the NCPO chief is aware of them, as well as hardships and concerns. The deputy spokesman noted, however, that, proper solutions have not yet to be worked out, as overly rushed acceleration may damage the nation in the future. The deputy spokesman assured that the NCPO is sincerely solving national problems and not favoring any particular party, while the coup council will neither repeat nor tolerate mistakes. The deputy spokesman revealed that the coup council is gathering problems of all parties and trying to solve them right away, including amendments to relevant laws, regulations and structures, while also studying impacts of such amendments because they may affect the national monetary and fiscal structuresn, as well as, among others, national revenues, international relations, investors and shareholders. The deputy spokesman also quoted the NCPO chief as saying that the coup council will first try to relieve people's hardships and when a new Thai government is later formed, it will serve the needs of all parties.
