Nearly 20 Thai provinces affected by summer storms

BANGKOK, March 21 (TNA) - The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, under the Ministry of Interior, reports that 19 Thai provinces have been affected by rain and summer storms, while assistance has been dispatched for the disaster victims. The department's director general, Chartchai Promlert, told journalists on Tuesday that during March 14-21, 4,137 houses in 55 districts of 19 provinces, most of which are in the Thai Northeast, have been damaged by summer thunder storms with three deaths. Chartchai said his department has worked with local authorities, military units and other agencies concerned to provide initial assistance and necessities, as well as roof tiles and home repair equipment to the affected villagers, while local officials have conducted a survey on damages to provide them with proper compensation. As thunder storms and gusty wind have continued in many parts of Thailand, namely the Lower North, the Northeast and the central region, the department has cooperated with provincial authorities to monitor the updated situation.
