Nearly 80 illegal migrants nabbed aboard southern train

NAKHON SI THAMMARAT, THAILAND, March 30 (TNA) - A large group of 76 illegal Myanmar and Rohingya migrants have been arrested while riding on a southern train, aimed to sneak into a neighbouring country. Railway police joined forced with local police in Tung Song District of the southern Nakhon Si Thammarat Province to nab the 76 illegal migrants aboard the southern train on the Bangkok-Su-ngai Golok in the southernmost Narathiwat Province route on Monday, when the train stopped at the Tung Song station. An initial interrogation through an interpreter found that the group of illegal migrants had each paid brokers 100,000 baht before boarding the train in Bangkok to travel to Su-ngai Golok, bordering Malaysia, while other groups of illegal migrants had separately boarded other trains, including those in Hua Lampong station in Bangkok, in the central Ratchaburi Province and in the southern Chumphon Province, to different destinations. All those arrested were then sent to the Nakhon Si Thammarat Immigration Office to be later deported from Thailand. (TNA)
