New Airport To Exhibit Jogjakarta Civilization: Governor

JOGJAKARTA, Feb 9 (Antara) - Governor of Jogjakarta Special Region Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X wants the design of the New Yogyakarta International Airport (NYIA) in Kulon Progo Sub-District to highlight elements of civilization in Yogyakarta. "I hope for the notion, that had been agreed on, could be carried out, which is the potential of culture, history, and civilization in Jogjakarta to be revealed in the spirit of design in every space," he said after a meeting with the Director of PT Angkasa Pura I in Kepatihan Office, Thursday evening. He believed that the elements of culture, history, and civilization that exist in Jogjakarta can be adopted in the design of the airport spaces by using contemporary technology. "So it is not just a painting or a picture to fill the space, but there is a value of philosophy that can insert a soul in every room, so when people come in, they can directly see that there are history and tradition in there," he explained. According to the Sultan, the local traditions or wisdom of the community from six villages affected by the construction of the NYIA airport can also be highlighted in the airport spaces. Meanwhile, President Director of PT Angkasa Pura I Faik Fahmi also believed that the design of the International Airport in Kulon Progo would still use local wisdom, as well as characteristics that are unique to Jogjakarta. "We are asking for the direction from the Governor regarding the designs we have prepared, from both the interior and exterior side," he said. "We expected for the design of this Airport to keep using local wisdom," he added. He revealed that in April 2019, it is targeted for the NYIA Airport to be operating on a limited basis. In its development stage, they are prioritizing the completion of runways, targeted to finish by December 2018 or January 2019.
