New Bangkok-Vientiane bus service pact inked

BANGKOK, January 14 (TNA) - A new Thailand-Laos bus service agreement on the sixth route, linking Bangkok with Vientiane, has already been signed. Wuthichart Kalayanamitr, Managing Director of the Transport Co., Ltd., under the Thai Ministry of Transport, signed the agreement with Jitprasong Luangdetmeechai, Director of Laos' Jitprasong Yodniyom Co., in Bangkok on Wednesday. Transport Co., Ltd. had earlier operated passenger buses on the Bangkok-Vientiane route since October 1, 2012 over a distance of 648 kilometers with two 10-hour daily trips, one is from Bangkok to Vientiane and the other is from Vientiane to Bangkok, and a fare of 900 baht per trip. The earlier service was based on Transport Co., Ltd.'s contract with a transport state enterprise of Vientiane on the condition that each side operated one trip daily. The Lao government, however, proposed the contract termination last September because it had no buses with the same standard of Transport Co., Ltd. and asked Transport Co., Ltd. to seal the deal with Jitprasong Yodniyom Co. instead. Wuthichart later told journalists that his Transport Co., Ltd. has operated regular bus services to Laos and Cambodia on 14 routes since 2004, including those linking Bangkok with Pakse in Laos and with Siem Reap and Phnom Penh in Cambodia, all of which have received a warm welcome from travelers.
