New Smart Device Application Showcases Qatar's Nature

Doha, December 12 (QNA) - A new bi-lingual interactive smartphone application called Qatar e-Nature is poised to boost public awareness on environmental issues. Energy and chemical company Sasol launched this application in association with the Friends of the Environment Center (FEC) following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding. Expressing delight, FEC Chairman Dr Saif Al Hajari said, "The user friendly 'Qatar e-Nature' would serve as the go-to-resource for understanding and appreciating the rich nature of Qatar. It is accessible to anyone with a smart-phone, tablet and personal computer." We laud Sasol's efforts to bring such esoteric knowledge to the mainstream in a fun and interactive way, he added. Reiterating the companys commitment to environment and social responsibility, Sasol Qatar President Marjo Louw said, "With Qatar being one of the countries with the highest smart phone penetration, it made sense to reach out to the public through this medium." This commitment to develop the app and spread environmental awareness aligns to Qatar National Vision 2030 and contribute to it, he added. EFC provided the database for the app. It includes descriptions, local names and images of flora, birds and insects, as well as sounds of the native and migratory birds. A favourites section allows users to add a bird, insect or plant for later review. Users can even submit the images that app moderators could consider to add to the existing gallery. An email helpline will receive user feedback for technical support, listed under the contact section. The app available in Arabic and English languages, can be downloaded from Apple App Store, Google Play store for Android, Windows Phone Store, and BlackBerry App World. A web version of the app (www.enature.qa) is also available for desktop access, optimised for mobile devices. (QNA)
