New taxi fares likely to increase at end-December

BANGKOK, Dec 5 (TNA) - An increase in taxi fares in Bangkok is likely to be implemented before the end of December, according to Teerapong Rodprasert, director-general of Land Transport Department. Mr.Teerapong said the new fare, which is expected to be increased around 7 – 8 per cent during an initial period, would be implemented after all taxis running in the capital have undergone safety standard test. He said about 25,000 taxis out of over 100,000 in the capital have already taken the required safety standard test while it is expected not less than 85 per cent of the total would have received the test by December 21. The Land Transport Department will provide the test for taxis from 7.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. every day, starting tomorrow. (TNA)
