New Thai PM to visit Cambodia

BANGKOK, September 2 (TNA) - Newly-appointed Thai Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha will visit neighbouring Cambodia soon. New Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister General Tanasak Patimapragorn, who is also Thai Supreme Commander and a deputy chief of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), told journalists that he informed Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen of the new Thai premier's planned trip to Cambodia during his visit to Phnom Penh on September 1. General Tanasak said that during a one-hour meeting between Prime Minister Hun Sen and Thai delegates, led by him, at the Cambodian Government House, the Cambodian leaderalso expressed his confidence in and support for the new Thai government of General Prayuth. Besides, General Tanasak acknowledged, Prime Minister Hun Sen showed his understanding in the situation in Thailand and congratulated the new Thai Cabinet of Prime Minister Prayuth, stating that he believed General Prayuth's administration would secure Thailand's strong progress toward the ASEAN Community (AC) by 2015. According to the deputy prime minister, the Cambodian leader also promised to set aside Thai-Cambodian issues and, instead, focus on mutual development and boost bilateral relations, especially those along the common border. The deputy prime minister revealed he informed the Cambodian leader as well that the Thai junta needed to take actions to protect democracy and prevent a civil war in Thailand, which would, otherwise, affect the overall growth of the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
