New Year celebrants advised to take enough sleep

BANGKOK, January 3 (TNA) - Thai Public Health Minister Dr. Rajata Rajatanavin has advised New Year celebrants to take a rest of about eight hours before starting a journey in order to prevent a road accident. Realising that a number of New Year revellers consume a lot of alcohol during the ongoing five-day New Year holiday while they are to drive back to Bangkok and other destinations to resume their work next Monday, Dr. Rajata made the suggestions on Saturday, urging them to also consume a large amount of warm drinks and not to drive while feeling drowsy. Besides, the public health minister suggested that motorcyclists always wear safety belts and helmets while driving. Meanwhile, Dr. Suphon Srithamma, Director-General of the ministry’s Department of Medical Services, advised those being hangovers to drink a lot of clean water and warm drinks, such as milk, or easily digested food to help strengthen their bodies. Dr. Suphon said the people should also consume sufficient nutrients, warning if they do not look after their health properly, they may have health problems in the long-term. According to the senior health official, those already having health problems, like diabetes and high blood pressure, should take medicines punctually, as prescribed by their doctors. (TNA)
