New Year Celebrants Start Leaving Bangkok

BANGKOK, December 28 (TNA) - Many New Year revellers have started leaving Bangkok by trains and buses this weekend as Hua Lamphong, the capital’s main railway station, Mo Chit bus terminal,as well as southern bus terminal, are doing brisk businesses. State Railway of Thailand (SRT) officials said they projected that more than 20,000 train passengers would leave Bangkok on Sunday, compared to over 23,000 passengers on Saturday. SRT estimates that its ticket sales, excluding revenue earned from advance ticket booking, would be 1.6 million baht. It has projected that more passengers would leave Bangkok on Monday and Tuesday to celebrate the New Year holidays. General atmosphere at Mo Chit and the southern bus terminal is similar to the railway station as people crowded and boarded buses heading for the South. State-run Transport Co. Ltd. said about 292,320 passengers travelled by buses in the past two days. The company said it believes bus passengers would travel most on Tuesday with the total number of over 100,000 persons on that day. Transport Co., Ltd. estimates that more than one million passengers would travel by buses during the upcoming New Year holidays, almost the same amount of celebrants from the previous New Year.
