New Zealand High Commission Donates Milk Powder To Flood Victims In Malaysia's Kelantan, Terengganu

KUALA LUMPUR, April 17 (Bernama) -- The New Zealand High Commission has donated milk powder to flood victims in Malaysian east coast states of Kelantan and Terengganu, said New Zealand's High Commissioner to Malaysia Dr John Subritzky. He said, the high commission had partnered with the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) in aid of flood victims in both states under the Harmony Programme. "New Zealand has a long and friendly relationship with Malaysia and its people. And we know all too well the havoc that natural disasters can cause and the impact that they have on communities. "We have not forgotten the sympathy and support that many Malaysians extended to New Zealand following the Canterbury earthquake in 2011," he said in a statement Friday. In collaboration with MRC's Harmony Programme, the high commission has donated Fonterra-sponsored Fernleaf Family milk powder which will reach hundreds of families in districts of Kuala Krai, Tanah Merah, Paka, and the Orang Asli (the indigenous people of Peninsular Malaysia) community of Gua Musang. The Harmony Programme is a MRC initiative that will facilitate the delivery of care packages to flood affected areas. He said the milk powder was specially formulated with important nutrients, vitamins and mineral and a single 900-gram packet would provide a family of four with milk for a week. The high commission was pleased to be working with Fonterra and the MRC to bring some small relief to those recovering from Malaysia's devastating floods last December. --BERNAMA
