Newspapers: Protection of Human Rights, Preservation of Dignity Constant Choices for Qatar

Doha, June 18 (QNA) - Qatari newspapers, Al-Watan and Al-Sharq, underlined that the protection of human rights and the preservation of human dignity are constant choices for the State of Qatar. In their editorials on Monday, the Qatari dailies said that the State of Qatar is proving, day after day, its continuous support for the rights of workers on its land, out of respect for the values and principles of human rights in general, referring to the announcement made yesterday by HE Minister of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs Dr. Issa bin Saad Al Jafali Al Nuaimi that the Ministry is in the process of establishing a workers' support fund which deals with the payment of the worker's financial entitlements, as well as the establishment of a Qatari shelter and human welfare center. For its part, Al-Watan newspaper highlighted Qatar's continuous keenness on preserving human rights in general and the workers and the residents living on its land in particular. The paper noted that Eid Al-Fitr was an occasion to indicate Qatar's care and attention to the workers and all residents on its land, who HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani was keen to greet, along with the Qatari people, on the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr. Al-Watan also highlighted the great efforts exerted by the Ministry of Interior in order to spread security and peace in the State during Eid days, noting that the Ministry's activities during Eid attracted thousands of communities, in a scene that reflects the State's interest in the welfare of all Qatar's residents and the Ministry's keenness on community participation in various events. Meanwhile, Al-Watan praised the announcement of HE the Minister of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs on the inauguration of a shelter and human welfare center, on the sidelines of the Filipino community's celebration of the Philippine National Day and the Filipino Migrants Day, which was held in Doha yesterday. The paper also referred to the assertion of HE Secretary of the Department of Labor and Employment of Philippines Silvestre Bello III that his country chose the State of Qatar for celebrating the Philippine National Day and Filipino Migrants Day in recognition of the efforts of the State of Qatar in protecting the rights of workers. Meanwhile, Qatari newspaper Al-Sharq underlined that the State of Qatar proves everyday its keenness on the protection of human rights, based on its respect for the values and principles of human rights which are deeply established in the Qatari policies and were praised by related international organizations and institutions. Al-Sharq highlighted the opening of an International Labor Organization (ILO) office in Doha recently, a move that was praised by Secretary-General of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) Sharan Burrow as a historic event and a great step in the framework of the achievements made by Qatar in improving work environment and ensuring the rights of workers. Meanwhile, Qatar continues to indicate its keenness on human rights and workers' welfare, Al-Sharq said, referring to the announcement of HE Minister of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs Dr. Issa bin Saad Al Jafali Al Nuaimi that the Ministry is in the process of establishing a workers' support fund which deals with the payment of the worker's financial dues upon the decision of the Labor Dispute Settlement Committee, incase their employers go bankrupt. The paper also highlighted the announcement of the establishment of a shelter and human welfare center, to be concerned with providing the necessary assistance and protection to victims of human trafficking as well as rehabilitating and integrating them into society, in addition to providing shelter for temporary workers until their exit from the state is ensured.
