NHRC Organizes Session on Principles of Human Rights, Their Protection Mechanisms

Doha, February 07 (QNA) - The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) organized Sunday a training session on the principles and concepts of human rights and their protection mechanisms at the NHRC headquarters. NHRC The three-week training session aims to develop, strengthen and build the capacities of the committee's staff, in addition, to raise awareness and knowledge of international and national mechanisms for the protection of human rights, and their role in protecting and promoting human rights. In a speech on the occasion, Director of Programs and Education Department of NHRC Mubarak Mohammed Al Safran said that the training session comes within the framework of activating the NHRC strategic plan to promote and protect human rights, raise the operational efficiency of its staff, and develop their capabilities and functional skills. It also aims for developing the committee's work, upgrading the technical and administrative level of the employees, in addition to raising the efficiency of employees in preparing reports to be submitted to international human rights organizations, bodies, and committees, he added. He explained that the main objectives of the training session are to enhance job skills, develop the technical capabilities of employees and expand their knowledge of the UN human rights mechanisms, in addition to identifying practical methods for effective participation with the UN mechanisms, such as writing and following up reports, and training employees on international mechanisms for protecting human rights and the relevant committees. He also indicated that the session covers many topics related to introducing human rights principles and concepts, international human rights conventions, and an overview of national mechanisms for the protection of human rights, national institutions for the promotion and protection of human rights. It will also shed light on the role of treaty committees in protecting human rights. After the end of the training session program, it is expected that the participants will get acquainted with the various national mechanisms for the protection of human rights, understand the national human rights institutions role as one of the most important national mechanisms for protection, and the international mechanisms of protection through the UN human rights system and bodies established under the charter - contractual mechanisms, in addition to raising their knowledge of the contractual mechanisms and how they work, and their role in protecting and promoting human rights, Al Safran said.
