NHRC urges all parties to refrain from violence

BANGKOK, December 2 (TNA) - The National Human Rights Commission of Thailand (NHRC) has urged all concerned parties to exercise restraint to avoid violence and human rights violations, but joining hands in seeking a peaceful solution to the ongoing domestic political strife. The NHRC also asked the Royal Thai Police, in its statement released on Monday, to speed up an official investigation into an violent incident in front of Bangkok's Ramkhamhaeng University on November 30, resulting in four deaths and several injuries, and to keep the public informed of updates. The NHRC called for both anti-government protesters and the government to avoid confrontation or provocation and not to intervene with the media, while urging the local media to remain neutral and not to take sides in their coverage. Besides, the NHRC requested the government to always observe international laws and norms in dealing with the protesters, while the victims of the political crux and their families are assured of equal assistance withoug any discrimination.(TNA)
