NHRC urges horse-trainers to use adult jockeys

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) advised horse trainers not to use child jockeys in winter horse races. Witnessing first round races ahead of Lunar New Year horse races and other winter horse-racing events, NHRC urged horse trainers not to put child jockeys on horseback in winter races, when conditions are more risky. Very often, up to 25 kilometer of riding foreseen by the competition, children are preferred to adults: they are lighter and do not tire the animal. However, over the past year, 326 kids at a young age have suffered serious injuries in official matches, but it is estimated that that figure is greater if one takes into account the accidents that occurred in the countryside and that go unreported.
