NIHR submits report to Charter Committee

Manama, May 15 (BNA): The National Institute for Human Rights (NIHR) has submitted its parallel report to the Charter Committee, following Bahrain’s first periodic report on the progress attained on the implementation of the Arab Charter on Human Rights, for discussion at the next session, NIHR Secretary General Dr. Khalifa bin Ali Al Fadhel said. Al Fadhel said that the submission of parallel reports and contribution to drafting and discussing reports that Bahrain has committed to present periodically, falls within the NIHR prerogatives. He added the NIHR report highlights Bahrain’s progress in terms of the implementation of the Arab Charter on Human Rights. Al Fadhel praised Bahrain’s efforts to protect human rights, saying they stemmed from its belief in the significance of the Arab mechanisms for preserving human rights in the Arab countries. He added the NIHR has based its report on a set of relevant standards, most notably the Arab Charter on Human Rights, the Guidebook on the participation of national human rights institutions, NGOs and concerned sides, in addition to international human rights instruments ratified by Bahrain, as well as complaints and requests received by the NIHR.
