NLA president, vice presidents vow to restore democracy in Thailand

BANGKOK, August 18 (TNA) - The president and vice presidents of Thailand's National Legislative Assembly (NLA) vow to restore democracy in the country in the near future. NLA President Pornpetch Wichitcholchai and two Vice Presidents, Surachai Liangboonlertchai and Peerasak Porjit, made the vow, after they ceremonially acknowledged a royal command for their appointment at the Parliament on Monday morning. In a subsequent press conference, Pornpetch said that the NLA would adhere to the rule of law, quickly pass laws and restore true democracy in the country. Surachai noted that the NLA has its responsibilities during the national reform process and he believed all 197 NLA members would devote themselves to ensuring national progress. Peerasak promised to do his best and make the NLA to satisfy people's expectation. The NLA president, however, declined to confirm whether Thailand's interim prime minister would be appointed within this month. Meanwhile, Monday's second session of the NLA was heavily guarded, with all members, officials and journalists required to show their ID cards. (TNA)
