No ban on Songkran’s water splashing

BANGKOK, March 26 (TNA) - Water splashing will be held along Bangkok’s Khaosan Road as usual during an upcoming Songkran Festival, Thailand’s traditional New Year. President of the Khaosan Road Business Association Piyabutr Jiwaramonaikul rejected that water splashing was banned on Khoa San Road during the Songkran festival. However, he said this year’s celebration will refrain from holding entertainment activities including Miss Songkran beauty contest and musical shows as the country is still mourning the passing of the beloved King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Khaosan Road is a backpacker haven in Bangkok’s historic area, not far from the Grand Palace, where mourners come to pay respect to His Majesty the late King. Meanwhile, people, living in Khao San area will have only one-day Thai New Year celebration on April 13, in which they offer alms to Buddhist monks in the morning to make merit for good luck.(TNA)
