No more Thais in Nepal want to return home

BANGKOK, May 1 (TNA) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports that no more Thai people in Nepal want to return home for the time being despite continual aftershocks; while the last group of six Thai nationals is scheduled to arrive in Thailand on Saturday (May 1) evening. Thai Foreign Ministry Spokesman Sek Wannamethee, who is also Director-General of the ministry's Department of Information, confirmed that no more Thai nationals had expressed their interest in returning home. The spokesman told journalists that 159 Thai people who wanted to return home had already arrived home and six more Thai students are scheduled to arrive in Thailand about 6:30pm on May 1. According to the spokesman, about 7-8 Thai people now stay at the Thai Embassy in Kathmandu, Nepal's capital. Regarding assistance for quake victims in Nepal, the spokesman noted that Thailand has quickly delivered necessities to Nepal, including drinking water, food, medicine, tents and blankets and on May 3, the Thai Red Cross Society will send more medical supplies to quake victims in the land-locked Himalayan nation, while the Royal Thai Police has expressed its readiness to deploy its identity verification experts to help Nepal. For donations from Thai people to Nepal, the Prime Minister’s Office reported that as of April 30, the donations had exceeded 90 million baht. (TNA)
