No protest at Pakklong Talad, Bangkok’s flower market

BANGKOK, July 3 (TNA) - There were no protests by vendors at Pak Khlong Talat, Bangkok’s biggest flower market last night as they are awaiting to meet Bangkok Governor on Monday. On Friday, vendors blocked traffic on Chakkraphet Road leading to the Memorial Bridge in their protest against the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s order, that required all flower stalls to be removed from the pedestrian pavements. Police and BMA workers have set up a temporary post at a post office, near the market, while many have been deployed along the pavement in an attempt to forbid vendors from violating the order or stage another protest. Flower vendors at Pak Khlong Talat said the BMA’s order has affected their livelihood and also flower growers. They have to pay more for rent if they have to move inside the market. They said they wanted the BMA to review the order and would meet with the BMA governor on Monday for clarity and leniency. (TNA)
