No protest at Thai- Myanmar border

TAK, Dec 27 (TNA) - There was no protest at Thai-Myanmar border in Mae Sot district here on Sunday after a Thai court earlier this week sentenced two Myanmar nationals to death for murdering two British tourists in southern Thailand last year. Immigration police said the number of Thai and foreign tourists visiting Tak province bordering Myanmar has increased to about 4,000 daily as the New Year festival is approaching. The overall situation at the Thai-Myanmar border remained calm. Workers were busy loading goods into boats from Mae Sot to the Myanmar city of Myawaddy before celebrating New Year holidays while a large number of Myanmar people were seen shopping at a market in Mae Sot. Despite the peaceful situation in Mae Sot, Thai soldiers and border patrol policemen have boosted security measures along the Thai-Myanmar border. (TNA)
