No report of Thai fatalities in Osaka quake

BANGKOK, June 18 (TNA) -- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that it has not received any reports of Thais being injured or killed in the Monday morning earthquake that hit Japan's second largest metropolis Osaka. Ms. Busadee Santipitaks, Director-General of Department of Information and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that they have received reports from the consular office in Osaka that no Thai citizens have been affected by the 6.1 magnitude quake that hit the northern part of the city of Osaka on the morning of June 18. Ms Busadee stated that at present there were 2,300 Thai nationals living in Osaka and around 6,000 spread out all over Kanzai region. Train service and schools have been closed and all Thai citizens have been ordered to report to the consular office in the event of emergencies. As of the present no tsunami warnings have been issued and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has released a statement saying that authorities were assessing the damage and that the top priority was the safety of their residents. The quake claimed three lives and at least 234 people have been injured. (TNA)
