No Terengganu Teachers Involved In Daesh Militant Group - Chief Minister Razif

KUALA TERENGGANU (Terengganu, Malaysia) April 30 (Bernama) -- Terengganu Chief Minister Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman said Saturay he had not heard of any teacher in the state being involved in the Daesh militant group. He said the state government would not tolerate involvement of civil servants in Daesh. "Such people, if any, will be dealt with by the security agencies and in accordance with the law," he told reporters after opening the 22nd annual general meeting of Yayasan Guru Malaysia Berhad (YGMB) or (Teachers Foundation Malaysia Berhad) here. YGMB chairman Alimuddin Mohd Dom was also present. Ahmad Razif said 6,000 of the 22,000 teachers in Terengganu had joined YGMB, and that he himself, as a life member, would promote the benefits of the foundation to ensure that at lease 20,000 of the teachers registered as members. The menteri besar said that a member paid only US$2.55 (RM10) a month but stood to benefit up to as much as US$17,886 (RM70,000) from the 16 welfare products offered to members by YGMB, including study aid and disaster relief assistance. Alimuddin, when addressing the meeting, said that last year up to Dec 31 some 11,475 teachers joined YGMB and raised the total membership to about 100,000. He said that since it was set up in 1994, YGMB had expended more than RM13 million to finance welfare assistance for members. Last year alone, almost RM1 million was disbursed to members through the various welfare products, he added. Alimuddin said the 1TeachersCard credit card launched in 2012 in collaboration with Bank Simpanan Nasional earned YGMB a net profit of RM1.6 million in 2015. More than 70,000 teachers are holders of the card. At the event, Ahmad Razif handed over a YGMB special welfare contribution to 15 teachers and school staff suffering from chronic ailments.
