No Thais affected by volcanic eruptions in Japan

TOKYO, May 30 (TNA) - The Thai Embassy in Tokyo reports that no Thai nationals stay or have been affected by volcanic eruptions in Japan so far. The Thai Embassy to Japan confirmed on Saturday (May 30) that no Thais stay near the Mount Shindake on the far southern Kuchinoerabu Island, where there have been volcanic eruptions with ashes springing up into the air as high as over nine kilometres. The Thai Embassy said it had made an inquiry to authorities in Yakushima Town, which is responsible for administering the island, and was told that no Thais stay on the island. According to the Thai Embassy in Tokyo, no casualties have been reported so far in the violent volcanic eruptions, which began on Friday (May 29). Japanese authorities have, however, increased alert levels from three, which signifies no entry in the area, to five, which calls for an evacuation. The Japanese Authorities have been closely monitoring the volcano since it erupted last year. (TNA)
