No UAE Citizen Detained For Organic Drug

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 18 (Bernama) – The United Arab Emirates (UAE) embassy said none of its citizen was being held by the Malaysian authorities for smuggling an organic drug in the from of leaves called 'Khat'. This was confirmed by Wisma Putra (Foreign Ministry) after the embassy sought details of a detention involving its citizen at the KL International Airport reported by the media on Jan 9, an embassy spokesman told Bernama. The report quoted police as saying they had detected a big-scale smuggling of khat, which is used by chewing by people in the Middle East. Police had said the detection was made possible following the arrest of four men -- one Yemen and one UAE nationals and two locals at the airport. -- BERNAMA
