NRC chief:New Constitution will best suit Thailand

BANGKOK, March 5 (TNA) - National Reform Council (NRC) Chairman Thienchay Kiranandana has expressed his confidence that the new Constitution should be the last and the best democratic Charter suitable for Thailand. Thienchay assured on Thursday that the new Constitution, which is being drafted, should suit the context of Thailand, vowing that NRC will not support the passage of a Charter with a flaw. Thienchay told journalists that NRC will accept the new Constitution draft on April 17, 2015 and NRC will then deliberate the draft until April 26 before returning it to the Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC). Thienchay stressed that NRC has not determined whether it will accept the Constitution draft or not and it will not accept a flawed or problematic Constitution. The NRC chair also noted that he has agreed with the idea that members of the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) should not appoint their relatives as their assistants or advisers. Meanwhile, a CDC member, Jade Dhonavanik, confirmed he will propose his idea that members of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO, the Cabinet, NLA, NRC and CDC refrain from assuming political positions for two years after the end of their present posts in order to prevent criticisms on adherence to power and personal gains.
