NSC Chief: Victory of Malaysia’s ruling coalition good for peace talks

BANGKOK, May 6 (TNA) - The victory of the ruling coalition in Malaysia’s general election will be favorable for the peace dialogue between the Thai government and a southern Muslim insurgent group, said Lieutenant General Paradon Pattanathabut, Secretary-General of National Security Council (NSC), on Monday. He made the comment after the poll results showed that the Barisan Nasional led by caretaker Prime Minister Najib Razak won Malaysia’s 13 general election. Lieutenant General Paradon said the government of Prime Minister Najib Razak had clear policy toward the peace dialogue. It had facilitated and ensured continuity of the talks between the NSC and the Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) insurgent group. The NSC chief also said in the third round of the dialogue set for June 13, the NSC would adhere to its standpoint in seeking ways to reduce violence in Thailand’s deep South. The first and the second round of peace talks between the NSC and the BRN were held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on March 28 and April 29. (TNA)
