Number of passengers using Turkish airports in 2011 up 14.4 pct

ISTANBUL (A.A) - Director General of Turkey's State Airports Authority (DHMI), Orhan Birdal, said that the number of passengers using Turkish airports in 2011 went up 14.4 percent when compared to the previous year and reached a figure of 118,425,000. In a press conference held in Istanbul, Orhan Birdal said that Istanbul's Ataturk Airport, Antalya Airport and Istanbul's Sabiha Gokcen Airport were the airports that ranked at the top of the list of Turkish airports receiving most passengers in 2011. We believe that the DHMI's profits by the end of 2011 would be around 820 million Turkish liras (approx. 448 million USD), Birdal noted. In 2012, we plan to make investments worth 425 million TL (approx. 232 million USD), Birdal said. The third airport to be built in Istanbul will have a passenger capacity of 100 million per year. We are working on this project and have made some progress, Birdal emphasized. On the airports to be opened in 2012, Birdal said that the international flights terminal of the Milas Bodrum Airport, terminal buildings of the Kars, Agri and Adiyaman airports, as well as Kastamonu, Bingol and Igdir airports would all go into service in the current year. Touching on their plans in 2013, Birdal underlined that the Sirnak, Cizre and Hakkari airports would go into service in 2013.
