Number of Turkish-Syrian land border crossings drops due to developments in Syria

HATAY (A.A) - Number of border crossings to Syria from gates in Turkey has dropped in the recent period. Mustafa Yilmaz, a member of executive board of the International Transporters' Association of Turkey (UND), told AA correspondent on Wednesday that number of border crossings to Syria from border gates in the southern province of Hatay dropped by 50-60 percent in the first ten months of 2011 compared to the same period last year. Turmoil in Syria made a negative impact on the transportation sector, he said. Yilmaz said that most of transportation companies did not want to go to Syria or other countries via Syria, he added.
