OAPEC Re-elects Its Secretary General for New Three Years Term

Doha, December 21 (QNA) - The Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting (OAPEC) Ministers Council in its 91st meeting held here today re-elected its Secretary General Abbas Ali Al-Naqi for a new three years term. In a press statement on the sidelines of the meeting, the Secretary General Abbas Ali Al Naqi said that the OAPEC is working on conducting several studies related to energy, especially with regard to oil, gas and other energy fields, and it will take part effectively in coordination between the Arab delegations participating in the United Nations Convention on Climate Change , along with its proven role in the coordination between the positions of the Arab countries in this regard. He added that the organization is to hold coordination meetings among members-states to take specific and common positions where the organization had made steps in the field of sustainable development and the role of energy in the desired development processes. On whether OAPEC has a role in determining oil production by the Arab countries, Al-Naqi denied any role by the organization in determining the oil production or prices as these matters are to be set by OPEC, he said. Al-Naqi said OAPEC is to conduct studies and analysis on the oil market and its needs as well as the impact of different matters on the oil market generally.(QNA)
